This is a very calculated move by the Russians. Where there is more to it than Georgia that meets the eye. The meaning of the Russian move into Georgia is not lost on the Chinese. The Olympic Games have opened which are supposed to be China's coming out party as having arrived on the world stage as a power to be reckoned with. Having the President of the US sitting in the audience was to be the acknowledgement of China's status in the world. So what have the Russians done, but upstage the Chinese in their moment of glory.
The US has been forced into a dilemma. Georgia has been an ally and friend. The US has given aid and military support. The Russians have invaded the country rightly or wrongly, it is a matter of he said, she said. Does the US support a friend in the region or lose credibility as in not supporting its allies in the face of hostile military action. That is the real issue facing the US......As to the matter of he said, she said, it serves Russian interests to muddy the waters in that it sows doubt in the West as to the true motives for Russian military action.
It is called PAX AMERICANA. The US maintains its power, prestige and wealth by meddling in other peoples affairs for the benefit of America. It was America who launched the idea of a Global Economy after WW2. Of course at the time the American leadership was thinking more in terms of containing a Soviet menace in the east. It was called the Marshall Plan. From there it has grown into a global economy that has added 1B people to the Middle Class. It is the American Empire which is not based on military occupation as empires of the past were.
There is such a thing as the Global Economy based upon the notion of Capitalism and Free Trade. This was the notion that the USA launched after WW2 begining with the Marshall Plan. One may call it the American Empire. In that empire the United State is merely one part of it. The US government no longer serves only the interests of the people who live in the United States but that of the whole American Empire.
While one wouldn't wish ones worst enemy Senators Kennedys illness as it is a terrible thing, his political power is in question and bears discussion. The Lion of the Senate is losing his teeth, and this appears to be his last hurrah..... While he was in the hospital, it was Hillary who vowed to take the fight for the nomination to the convention. when Senator Kennedy went home, Hillary quietly gave up the ghost of her being nominated...... Secondly it was shortly thereafter that Caroline Kennedy was appointed to the vetting commitee regarding the nomination of the Obama VP.
Barrack Obama eloquently tells America and the world that he can lead them to peace and prosperity. However in truth Barrack Obama is nothing more than a poor black man who has sold his soul to the devil down at the crossroads at midnight. For 20 years Barrack Obama has done nothing except rubber stamp whatever the Democratic Party position was in Illinois. One of the essential qualities of a leader is tread where no men dare to go out of conviction, and taking the risk of not only going it alone but of ostricization by your own people.
When JFK took the Democratic Party nomination he had been a Congressman and a Senator from MA. Moreover he had a war record where he served with bravery. One knew exactly what kind of stuff JFK was made of. He was his own man and could prove it. What does Obama have, 120 days in the Senate before announing. Twenty years of rubber stamping every Liberal proposal in Ill. The question that is UNANSWERABLE, even though the Democrats will try to spin and spin is who is going to be running the nation if Obama is elected President?
Nation states are run on pragmatism, as that is how food, clothing and shelter are provided. Preaching about morality and idealism is best left for church. Now that is not to say that honesty is not a essential virtue in a Democracy as it builds trust among people and that is the glue that holds a Democracy together...............The United States has never been run on a higher moral or idealistic plain than any other nation in history (the Founders didn't even abolish slavery which they knew was a abomination against mankind).
There are seminal events that irrevocably change the course of history and nation states. Americans can argue among themselves all they like but that doesn't change the reality of the situation. This particular "oil crisis" is shaping up to be one of those nation changing events. The America that we have known since the end of WW2 is going away. There is a shift of power taking place in the world. No longer will America be first among nations but will have slipped into the one among many powers that be.
The "last innocent" generation...When we was growin up we was all told by our teachers in school that America was the GREATEST that we represented everything good in the world and everybody loved America and Americans for it. That America was honest as the day was long...Then something happened that started to change our opinions. That was the death of JFK, we didn't quiet believe what our HONEST, NEVER TELL A LIE government told us about it.
